What is a ring main unit (RMU)?
A ring main unit is compact, factory-assembled medium-voltage switchgear used in secondary distribution networks, typically rated 12 kV, 24 kV or 36/40.5 kV. It connects to a ring of cables through load-break switches and feeds a distribution transformer through a fuse-switch combination or a vacuum circuit breaker. RMUs are widely used in urban networks, compact substations, and wind and solar collection systems.
