What is a surge arrester?
A surge arrester, also called a lightning arrester, protects transformers, switchgear and lines from overvoltages caused by lightning and switching. Most Chinese arresters use metal-oxide (zinc oxide) varistors in a porcelain or polymer housing, for distribution and transmission voltages.
What buyers compare
- System voltage and rated voltage
- Nominal discharge current (for example 5 kA or 10 kA)
- Porcelain or polymer housing
- Line class and energy rating
- Standard: IEC 60099-4
